Composing to Visuals
Applications for 2026 are now closed.
We are excited to introduce ‘Composing to Visuals’ - a mentoring programme for early-stage composers who want to write Music for TV, Film and Visual Media.
4 participants will be selected to receive mentoring from established composers to work through a realistic brief provided by Sky.
The programme aims to help early-stage composers:
Develop confidence in their creative abilities and knowledge and understanding of audio-visual media careers (e.g. How to get paid, how to get work)
Enhance their composition abilities through tailored feedback and support from their mentor
Expand their networks and contacts in the industry
Access a community of like-minded peers who are at a similar stage in their development
Timeline:
March – Applications Open.
April– Judging panel and selections takes place.
May-June – Mentoring Sessions take place.
July - End of programme industry showcase.

Am I Eligible for this programme?
You are eligible to apply if you meet the following criteria
You are a songwriter or composer
You over 18 years of age
You are at an early stage of your career (to us, early stage means you do not have a significant publishing deal/representation or multiple composition credits yet).
You are based in the UK
You are available for the key programme dates outlined in the application process

Eligibility - we will check the above eligibility criteria applies to you
About you - we will ask for your contact details and a bit more information about you.
Application questions - we will ask you a few questions about why you want to participate in the programme.
Example of your work - we will ask for a composition you have written that was intended for media content.
EDI form (optional) - we ask you to consider completing an EDI form for internal reporting.

Applications will be assessed by representatives of the Ivors Academy Trust, as well as our network of expert composers, mentors, publishers, music supervisors and more.
Once application have been received - the selected judges will be provided with a judging kit to help them make an informed and objective decision.
We have a clear process in place for declaring conflicts so the judging panel can make an independent decision. Furthermore, we have an inclusive approach in line with our EDI policy to ensure there is no unconscious bias in the judging process.
